Black Tower and the Czech Budějovice
Black Tower was built in the 16th century, in the center of České Budějovice, next to the Cathedral of St. Nicholas. Today it is a popular tourist attraction, that is in season available to the public and provides particular view of the city center. Previously, to serve as a guard and warning tower, bell tower, and not least as a symbol of the city's fortunes. The tower has a square floor plan of the length of 11.6 m and height is 71.9 m. The high interior is divided into 9 floors, while in the 6th and 7th floor and dome of the tower is located a total of 6 bells. The largest of these is Bumerin, which was made in 1723 from the same bell originally hung in the church of sv. Nicholas. To a height of the fifth floor was built in Gothic style, from the sixth floor of the predominant style of Renaissance.
Rumors: The bell Bumerin originally belonged to the city Rudolfov, but in a dispute with local miners, Budějovice confiscated local church in Rudolfov. Outrage miners wanted to save at least his bell, and he was buried in the ground. Later, however, have failed to find a place and a bell was lost. Many years later, the bell was found and dug by pig on Sviní meadow near the village Lišov. Pig keeper dug bell and gave it to his city. However, for Lišov tower was too heavy, so it was sold properly to Budějovice. They had to fork out ducats across the road from Budějovice to Lišov. Lišov people considered buying three small bells, and even they left. Because the bell was so expensive, when it said ring fly ducats. Seeing is the only one by far, as symbolized the city's fortunes.
